Devon is scattered with picturesque villages and stunning scenery from the wild, vast open space of the Dartmoor National Park, to rugged coastlines, contrasting with lovely sandy beaches which are one of the major reasons Devon is so popular to hire a cottage for a holiday break.

South Devon contains a larger choice of sandy beaches, and the coastline is no so rugged, though there are areas of cliffs. The Area from Brixham to Plymouth has been designated and Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) while east of Brixam towards Torquay and beyond (Torbay) is known as the ' English Riviera'
