The popular holiday town of Windermere lies in southern lakeland area of the Lake District National Park, and is in fact contrary to popular thought, its not on the shores of Lake Windermere that many believe. The Lake is approximately a half mile from the town centre and the older neighbouring town of Bowness-on-Windermere which appears to seamlessly merge with Windermere itself is on the lakeside.
The town is a popular self catering holiday destination for those seeking a self catering holiday cottage or apartment for their stay in the lake District with so much to see and do with tours along the lake from the jetty at Bowness , walks and attractions nearby. If you are staying in self catering accommodation, you may want to eat out in the evening and locally there are plenty of opportunities with many restaurants and bars, some serving food.
